How Do You Reinstate Your License After a Conviction for Driving Under the Influence (DUI)?

|

If you have been convicted or pled guilty to the charge of driving under the influence (DUI), part of your sentence includes your license getting suspended for a period of time. If you had a straight suspension and the suspension period is over, you can go to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles and get your driver’s license reinstated. However you must have completed all of the conditions of the DUI sentence. Meaning all of the programs, schools, community service and fines must be paid before the Department of Motor Vehicles will reinstate you. Once you pay the reinstatement fee, you can then drive legally.

If you had a work permit while your license was under suspension it’s a little easier to convert the work permit into a regular license. While you had the work permit you should have already completed the programs required during your sentence. If so, you can then convert the work permit to a normal driving license and reinstate your driving privilege. Of course this can only occur if you have completed your entire sentence.

It is imperative that when you are arrested for DUI, whether you have taken an alcohol breath test or not, that you hire a criminal defense lawyer in Miami to fight the charges for you. A criminal defense lawyer in Miami may be able to get the charges reduced or ensure that you don’t have a license suspension to deal with. This will not only save you the stigma of dealing with a DUI conviction, it will also save you money on your insurance rates.

If you have any issues getting your license reinstated, don’t drive. If you get caught driving on a suspended driver’s license it will make it more difficult for you to get reinstated. This will only make your situation worse. Retain a Miami criminal defense lawyer to help you reinstate your license. This needs to be accomplished very quickly from the time you were arrested.
